Materials and Process in my Work

As an artist, the medium I am most comfortable with is clay.  I like the way it feels in my hands, the flexibility when creating, and most importantly I get a great feel of meditation when I interact with it.  The process that I am using involves slabs of clay and extruding pieces, and different types of detail.  While creating I apply under glaze at the same time.  I build up the color as I build up my work.  By doing this type of method I can produce more work.  The reason I have chosen this type of medium is that ceramic last forever.  It is a permanent piece of artwork.  A three-dimensional piece of artwork pleases my eye more than other works I look at.  I have recently started to incorporate other mediums into my work.  I am doing a body of work about the diseases that humans get.  I thought a Petri dish with sculpted ceramic pieces could be a different way to look at these types of cells. It would make you feel like they were blown up or inflamed into the Petri dish because they are enlarged by the amount of clay I create them from.
